The main difference between the AM and HP models is that the AM Series only cools or cools and heats (AM09) the air, while the HP Series also purifies the air and is equipped with HEPA/HEPA+Carbon filters to catch and remove allergens, odors, and gasses. Also, the HP series can be connected to the app, have an auto mode, etc.
What is Jet Focus technology?
Focused mode channels a powerful jet of air for long-range personal heating or diffused mode to spread the air widely (AM09, HP01 HP02, HP04, HP06).
Spreads out the airflow to cool or heat an entire room through the back of the machine. Ideal to use when there are more than two people in the room.
Accelerate airflow in front of the machine focusing the concentrated stream of air in front of a user. Perfect to use for one person for a quick warm-up.
What is the speed timer?
With the speel timer, a machine can be programmed to turn off after pre-set intervals ranging from 15 minutes to 9 hours.
What is Link Technology?
Purifiers with the Link technology can be connected to the Dyson App and controlled from a smartphone (HP02, HP04, HP06).
Dyson Pure Cool
This technology combines both: fans and purifiers helping to disinfect 99% of bacteria in the water before dispersing it into the air via a special UV lighting system and also cooling the air.
Dyson Pure Hot + Cool vs. Hot + Cool
The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool technology combines everything the Pure Cool has while also maintaining a comfortable temperature when heating the air (HP01, HP02, HP04, HP06).
The Hot + Cool technology only heats and cools the air without purifying it (AM09).
According to Dyson:
In Heat Mode, the machine is set to a thermostatically controlled target temperature, the machine will continue to push out warm air until the room reaches this temperature, then the warm air will switch off. When the room temperature drops below the target temperature, the machine will start to warm the room again.
In Cool Mode, the machine is not thermostatically controlled and functions essentially as a powerful fan, circulating room temperature air. As it does not contain refrigerants or drip trays which are required for air conditioning, it is physically unable to reduce the room to a colder temperature, but will feel cooler due to the air movement.
The Dyson AM06 Cool Air Multiplier Desk Fan was designed to sit on your desk cooling the air around you while you are working.
It does not cover a big area and is ideal for small spaces. This model is not as expensive as the Tower, it can oscillate or tilt for better airflow where you want it. This 10-inch guy uses Air Multiplier technology to draw in air and amplify it 15 times, projecting smooth, quiet, powerful, high-velocity airflow without the use of blades. Its airflow reaches 370 l/s on max settings.
Three color options are available in the US market: black/nickel, blue, and white/silver.
Its shape is easier to clean than regular fans and also looks not as bulky.
Has a remote control to choose among 10 airflow settings, sleep timer, on/off, and oscillation control. You can control the oscillation to direct the airflow around the room.
No blade design means the fan is safer even for kids. The AM06 is quiet, it will not disturb you as you work.
The AM06 is only 3.96 lbs, easy to carry, easy to use, safe for kids and pets.
It is less expensive than the Tower models and can oscillate or tilt for better airflow where you want it.
The Dyson Cool AM07 Air Multiplier Tower Fan comes in four colors: black/nickel, iron blue, iron/copper, and white/silver.
It is bigger and taller than the AM06 but still can be kept on a table. The AM07 was designed for large rooms by increased airflow compared to the AM06.
This option has an LED display, sleep timer, 10 distinct airflow settings, and a remote controller. It has an airflow of 500l/s at maximum settings allowing to cover a large room.
It has a 6.6 feet length cord, easy to clean design, and a sleek look.
Compared to the AM06, the AM07 has a bigger size and is designed to cool a bigger area.
The Dyson AM08 Cool Air Multiplier Pedestal Fan is the first fan from Dyson that has a pedestal base.
One of the biggest improvements of the AM08 over the AM07 is that this model can tilt and oscillate, which means you can direct the airflow where you want to.
It does not have a display but features 10 precise airflow settings, sleep timer, can tilt and has a remote controller.
Compared to the AM07, this model is not spreading the air through the tower but concentrates it in one place because of its shape. It has a different shape, can tilt and oscillate.
The Dyson Hot + Cool Jet Focus AM09 Fan Heater comes in four color options: white/silver, black/nickel, iron/nickel, iron/blue, iron/red and iron/copper.
Unlike other models in this series, the AM09 not only can do cooling but also heating the air.
The fan heater is equipped with an intelligent thermostat that monitors the air temperature, reaches and maintains it to the same level you've desired (up to 37 degrees Celsius).
It features Jet Focus technology that allows adjusting air stream from a wide-angle for whole rooms or a tight stream for a direct hit.
The AM09 has a sleek design, is bladeless which means safe for everyone, comes with a remote controller, features sleep timer. It contains up to 186 l/s on max settings.
Have you ever noticed the burning smell when a heater works too long? The smell is burning dust. Dyson heaters never exceed 392 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius), which is below the burning point of dust. That means the Dyson heaters never let out that "burning dust" smell.
Compared to other AM models, the AM09 can do heating and cooling, has Jet Focus technology that allows spreading the air the way you want it, able to maintain the same temperature level in the room with an intelligent thermostat built-in.
AM06 vs. AM07 vs. AM08 vs. AM09
To conclude: The Dyson AM06 Cool Air Multiplier is a small desk fan suitable for one person and a small area. It can tilt up and down by about 30 degrees. It cools the air fast, it is the cheapest among the AM Series and is good as a personal fan.
The next generation, Dyson AM07 Cool Air Multiplier Tower Fan can't tilt but is more suitable for larger rooms. If you are looking for a stylish fan to cool the living room, have a look at the Dyson AM07.
One of the most underrated fans is the Dyson AM08 Cool Air Multiplier Pedestal Fan. It has a weird shape and is not the most convenient to use. Suitable for big rooms so if you are looking for a pedestal-shaped fan, go with the Dyson AM08.
The best value in our opinion is the Dyson AM09 Cool Air Multiplier Tower Fan. It does not have the best airflow which does not mean the fan is not suitable for bigger areas, it will only need more time to perform. This is the only fan that is also capable of cooling the air. It is nice-looking, can do both cooling & heating and can tilt. If you want one that would be able to warm up your room not only cool it down, consider getting the Dyson AM09.
The Dyson Pure Hot & Cool HP01 Air Purifier is the oldest among the series. The HP01 does not have WiFi nor can it be connected to the app.
It comes in two color options: white/silver and iron/blue.
Inside the machine, a HEPA filter captures up to 99.97% of allergens as small as 0.3 microns and would be safe for those who are sensual for allergy or asthma.
It has a sleep timer, oscillation, 10 Air Speed settings and automatic shut off if tipped over.
Supports diffused mode and has jet focus technology.
Comparing the HP01 with the HP02, you will not get an app connection, an LED screen, oscillation goes down from 350° to 70°, and it is not as powerful as the HP02.
The HP02 is wi-fi enabled and can be controlled from both the app and Alexa. Dyson Link app provides real-time air quality reports.
This model is available to buy in two colors: white/silver and iron blue.
A HEPA filter inside captures odors and harmful toxins as well as allergens in the air. It is also compact as the HP01 and can be stored on a desk purifying/cooling/heating small spaces. It can heat or cool a room and also has the built-in UV light for water sanitation.
One of the main features the HP02 has is an Auto mode which adjusts to your air, to get your best purification and best filter life.
The heater features a sleep timer, night-time auto mode, and an easy-to-clean aperture. It also supports jet focus control and can oscillate or tilt.
HP01 vs. HP02: What has changed with the newer model
- Is wi-fi enabled and can be linked to the Dyson Link app
- Is compatible with Alexa
- Has Auto mode
- Able to oscillate 180 degrees versus HP01's 70 degrees
The HP04 is one of the latest in the series. It can do purifying, cooling or heating depending on your needs. The machine reaches your desired temperature and maintains it on the same level.
It also has the same features the HP02 has with some upgrades.
The machine can be controlled from the app and by voice commands if you have Alexa. Features jet focus control, 10 different air speeds, LED display, a night timer, auto mode, and real-time air quality.
This has the best oscillation range of 350 degrees compared to 180 and 70 the other models feature. There are oscillation settings - no oscillation, 45 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 350 degrees. It also can tilt the direction up or down and it will still oscillate even tilted.
The biggest update of the HP04 is the filtration system. The unit is equipped with HEPA and Carbon filters. HEPA catches ultrafine particles (PM 2.5), allergens (PM10) while carbon filter removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) & Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) (odors, and gasses).
The Dyson HP04 Pure Hot + Cool Air Purifier is ideal for allergy and asthma sensitive people
Of the three, the HP04 maxes out at the highest airflow of ~310 liters/sec.
Dyson HP02 vs. HP04: what has been updated
- Includes a carbon filter
- Is able to oscillate 350 degrees vs. 180 degrees
- Maxes out at the highest airflow
- Has a display
- Can tilt
The newest Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Cryptomic (HP06) catches and destroys formaldehyde, while the HP04 captures and traps formaldehyde in the filters
Dyson HP01 vs. HP02 vs. HP04 vs. HP06
To conclude: HP01 is the cheapest has the smallest rotating angle, it does not support Wi-Fi nor can be connected to the Dyson Link app. Also, it lacks a display and Auto mode. Despite these things, the HP01 is still a great machine to get, it can do heating and cooling as it purifies the air and overall is a good device for the price. If you are not going to use the app and don't want to spend more, go with the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool HP01.
The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool HP02 is more advanced. It can be connected to the app, has a better rotating angle but still lacks a display. If you have Alexa, you might want to get this model as you can start and stop it by using your voice.
One of the latest Dyson purifiers, the HP04 can oscillate 350 degrees compared to 70 and 180 (HP01 and HP02 relatively). The biggest upgrade of this model over the others would be a carbon filter. Those who are sensitive to gasses and odors might need that extra filter. Overall, the HP04 is perfect for allergy and asthma sufferers because of the carbon filter which removes odors and harmful toxins. This purifier also ensures the best airflow at max settings which means it cools, heats or purifies the air in the room faster than the HP01 or HP02. It also has a display that shows the air quality data and can tilt. If you are looking for a purifier, heater, and fan that would have more options such as tilting, be safer for sensitive people, and be able to heat the air faster, go with the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool HP04.
The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Cryptomic (HP06) is not available yet but we already know what has changed over the previous HP04. While the HP04 traps formaldehyde in the filters, the HP06 destroys it.
Dual-mode Dyson fans are not designed to actually cool air. Instead, they circulate air, which in turn, makes the air feel cooler.
Please note, the machines with a lower airflow rate are also suitable for larger spaces only take longer to purify than purifiers with a faster airflow rate
