If you cannot afford a Dyson, the Shark Rocket DuoClean HV382 will suit your needs.

What about the Dibea D18? It might not have the strongest suction yet it is ideal for cleaning area messes. It is lightweight, even a kid can use it. The Dibea is budget, a vacuum cleaner you can afford especially if you don't have carpets, only area rugs or bare floors.
