Cleaning mechanics
The powered lift-away function cleans above the floors without tiring your hands. Most of the weight is located on the bottom, so even if the PowerDetect is heavier, you won't notice it.
The Shark's famous Duo roller system makes vacuuming much more efficient since one roller is made for picking up things (even large debris), and the second one is designed for deep carpet cleaning.
The Rotator has Shark's previous-gen brushroll system.
Smart features
The ZU102 Rotator doesn't sense floor type or dusty areas. You have to switch between modes. The Detect Pro, however, has:
- Edge Detect adjusts suction along the edges
- Floor Detect boosts suction on carpets
- Dirt Detect boosts suction on high-traffic areas
- Direction Detect recognizes which direction you are vacuuming, and automatically directs powerful suction to whatever direction is needed, for maximum cleaning in both forward and reverse.

The vacuum lacks Lift-Away, which has become popular on other Shark vacuums. With this feature, you can pull the canister and motor away from the floor head to carry it around for stair cleaning or other above-floor jobs. However, it has a long 12-ft hose.
Which one to get?
The Shark ZU102 Rotator Pet lacks smart suction adjustment and LED lights, yet has more power and a large dust cup, which makes it ideal for homes with high-pile carpets and pets. Better for deep carpet cleaning, allows using motorised tools in the Lift-Away mode, and holds more debris.
However, the Shark Detect Pro LA802 gets the smart features of the premium POWERDETECT and enough power to use on carpets. With smart features, it adjusts suction on its own and has the latest brushroll system, which is tangle-free and suitable for homes with pets.
