What features the Dyson V10 and V11 share
Even though there are a few improvements, the Dyson V10 and V11 have a lot in common.
Both Dyson V10 and V11 are perfect for allergy and asthma sufferers thanks to HEPA filtration that catches up to 99.9% of allergens and pollen in the air. Because of the new design, that includes an airtight gasket around the vacuum cleaner cyclone assembly and a pressurized rubber seal around the advanced filter, the whole filtration system is fully sealed which prevents allergens and pollens leaking back into the air. 100% safe for an allergy and asthma sufferers. The HEPA filter is washable.
With HEPA filtration, the Dyson V10 and V11 are safe for those who suffer from an allergy or asthma
Both Dysons have a reasonable big dustbin that holds up to 760 ml of dust and dirt. It empties by one simple action.
Wall-hanging charging base
The charging base allows keeping the vacuum on a wall and holds two extra tools. It makes the cleaner always ready to start.
Torque Drive head
The Dyson V11 comes equipped with the same torque drive head. It drives stiff nylon bristles into carpets to capture deep-down dirt. The head performs great on carpet flooring and bare floor as well, yet struggles with biggest particulars like cereal, etc.
The Torque Drive Head is ideal for carpet cleaning
Almost the same accessories kit
The Dyson V11 has all the same accessories in the box as the Dyson V10 Animal plus the V11 has a stubborn dirt brush.
So far, the Dyson V11 Absolute is not available on the US market, which means lack of a soft-roller head for bare floor the Dyson V10 Absolute comes with.
Three cleaning modes
The max (boost) mode provides the most airpower but drains the battery much faster.
Both models come with three cleaning modes for different cleaning needs
What are the differences between the Dyson V11 and V10?
Now let's go to the differences between the two.
Floor type detection - the Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) system: as we have talked before, the Dyson V11 comes equipped with the same Torque Drive head as the Dyson V10 does. The V11 head is equipped with the Dynamic Load Sensor that automatically adjusts power setting to a max level once it detects carpeted surface. It provides deeper carpet cleaning. Please note, that the same as the Boost mode, this sensor drains the battery fast when vacuuming carpet.
Air Power: even though the Dyson V10 has more than enough suction power for a cordless vacuum, the V11 is equipped with even stronger suction. The V10 delivers 150 AW on max power settings; the V11 - 185 AW. When testing, it was noticeable than the V11 gives more power even on medium power settings.
Noise: even though the Dyson V11 has more power, it is not as loud as the Dyson V10.
Battery life: The Dyson V11's battery runs longer, which makes the newest model perfect for big households. With the extended battery life, you get +1 extra pound of weight. Because of longer runtime, the Dyson V11 takes 4.5 hours to get fully recharged when the Dyson V10 got it in 3.5 hours.
Built-in display: the Dyson V10 shows battery level using an indicator. The Dyson V11 went further. There is an LCD screen that allows choosing between cleaning modes and has a countdown timer of battery life, so you know when the vacuum should be charged. The Animal version has a more basic display that does not have a countdown timer, yet it does show a battery level.
Accessories in the box: as we said before, both models have about the same accessories kit. The difference is almost unnoticeable except lack of the roller brush the V10 Absolute comes equipped with. Anyways, the V11 Absolute is available to buy in the UK, or you can get the roller brush separately.
Price: the most expensive Dyson V10 Absolute comes with a price tag of around $530 while the Dyson V11 Animal (the cheapest one) costs about $650. The Torque Drive with the LCD display will cost you ~$730.
Even the Dyson V10 has enough of accessories in the box; the V11 beats it having one cleaning tool more. It makes the Dyson suitable not only for floor cleaning but also for other cleaning needs.
As we talked in our Dyson model comparison chart, the V10 has three options: Motorhead, Animal, and Absolute.
The Motorhead is more suitable for carpet cleaning and doesn't work as good on bare floor, especially when it comes to bigger debris.
The Animal is better for pet owners. It comes with more extra accessories, and it has a different cleaning head than the Motorhead does.
The Dyson V10 Absolute has all the same accessories as the Animal version, plus a soft-roller head for hard floor cleaning.
Dyson claims that the V10 has a motor that has the most powerful suction of any cord-free vacuum. And it is a truth; the V10 was the most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner on the market before the V11 had been launched.
The Dyson digital motor V10 spins at up to 125,000rpm which generates the suction power of a full-size vacuum. It has 150 AW when the boost mode is on which is pretty impressive.
Strong suction, long runtime, lightweight, the Dyson V10 is one of the best in the industry of cordless vacuum cleaners.
The Dyson V11 has three options: Animal, Torque Drive, and Absolute. The last one is not available in the US so far.
The Dyson V11 is equipped with a display that reports run time and machine performance
The Animal has a more basic display with no countdown timer.
The Dyson V11 motor generates 20% more powerf than the Dyson V10 vacuum
Last but not least, the Dyson V11 Absolute comes with all extra tools like the Torgue Drive and the extra roller brush for bare floor cleaning.
Because of surface detection, the Dyson V11 is more intelligent than its predecessor. This sensor helps to save battery life since with the oldest models you had to turn off the max mode manually. The V11 does it automatically.
The Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) technology intelligently changes the motor speed between hard floors and carpets providing deeper cleaning on carpeted surfaces
Longer battery life makes it more suitable for big houses.
The screen gives you handy notifications and performance details, which is useful when using the cleaner.
Both Dyson models are easy to turn into handheld if needed.
To sum it up: which Dyson to buy?
Both models do a superb job on both: carpet and bare floor.
Even though the Dyson V10 is older and has less suction power, it is enough to provide deep cleaning on carpets.
Yes, the Dyson V11 ensures more power even on medium power settings, it only means that you most likely will have to go over the dirty spot a few times with the Dyson V10.
If you live in a big house, have pets that shed like crazy, your home is mostly covered with carpets including high-pile ones - the Dyson V11 would be perfect for you. In addition, you get surface recognization and a useful display.
