What Is The Best Cordless Vacuum of 2023 - Dyson vs Shark vs Tineco vs Hoover vs Bissell

Updated: Nov 04, 2024

Video made by Vacuum Wars

Cordless vacuums tested are broken up the competition into three categories: the budget category for vacuums $200 or less, the mid-level from 200 to $500, and the premium vacuums from 500 dollars and up.

The scores were given based on power (specifically their suction and airflow numbers), battery life, pickup ability on hard floors and carpet, ability to deep clean carpets, filtration systems, ability to resist pet hair tangles, weight and ease of use, attachment set included, the price, and a few other things I that were given specifically for a few models that were not usual and had some extra.

Let's start with the budget category

[Update] In 2022, most of the budget cordless vacuums that were used in the video are not available to buy anymore so were deleted from the table specs.

Suction power

Starting with the suction power. Airflow measurements at the cleaner head on high power combined with high power numbers taken on the main unit to get a combined score for each. The Eureka was the most powerful.

The next score is battery life

The Jimmy and MOOSOO 618B (not available) were close for first place with decent battery numbers with the other two MOOSOO models (not available) and Hoover React as well.

Let's get to the carpet deep clean test

This is where we take 100 grams of sand and embed it into a medium pile carpet and weigh the dustbins before and after to see how much they picked up. the new Hoover Blade+ is in first place.

Pickup ability

It is the most important category whether we are talking about bare floors or carpets. On hard floors, the Eureka PowerPlush did the best because of those soft roller heads which are so good with everything from fine debris to super extra large piles of debris as well as pet hair. In general, they all did much better here with a three-way tie going to the Hoover.

Filtration

Budget vacuums are not sealed systems with HEPA filtration and don`t really trap a lot of microscopic debris. All these vacuums failed either the fog test where a special kind of testing dust was used. You have to pay a bit more for a cordless vacuum with a good filtration system.

Hair tangling

Hair ability tangles were tested with one gram of 7in human hair. The Hoover Blade+ is the only one that wasn't terrible in this test.

Extra points were given for extra attachments included if the vacuums had handheld turbo brushes with a preference for motorized turbo brushes. Also, some of them got extra points for a removable battery and if these batteries were available for sale. In addition, we took their prices into account.

Final Score 41 (2nd) 44 (1st) 22 41 (2nd) 41 (2nd) 31

Because the quality performance and features get significantly better with the power specs, the mid-range vacuums are much preferable over anything in the budget category.

The Dyson V8 and Shark F80 were the best at suction power measurements

Battery life

It is a bit harder to take scores because the Tineco A11 Pet EX (instead of the A11 Master) and Shark F80 come with two batteries. With that being said, the Shark will be the winner here followed by the Tineco.

Deep carpet clean test

The Simplicity S65 did the best with its carpet floor head which has an excellent seal and good agitation followed by the Tineco A11, the Sharks, and Dyson V8 tied for third place.

Pickup ability

A bit complicated to score as fas as many of these cleaners come with two cleaner heads, for hard floors and carpets. The ones for carpets can do both but are much better for carpets. The Shark DuoClean rollers are the most optimal here for not having the need to switch between heads. All you need is to flip a switch on the handle to change the brush speed transition from hard floors to carpet. Much better than removing a cleaning head to switch to the other one. The Sharks did well with the debris pickup tests. Ironically some of the vacuums in this price range like the Shark Rocket Pet Pro and the Bissell IconPet were better than any vacuum at any price at resisting pet hair tangles as both of them have separate technologies to prevent tangles.

Because of the detachable battery, the Shark F80 is one of the longest-lasting in the business.

The Tineco is good for medium-pile carpets and also hard floors.

The Simplicity does a good job at deep carpet clean among mid-range cordless vacuums.

In the super-premium category, we got the Dyson V10 Absolute, Dyson V11 Torque Drive, and the Tineco PURE ONE S12 Pro EX. Those are between $500 and $700 and really there are only cordless vacuums in this price range at all.

The Dyson V11 is the most powerful cordless vacuum. The Dyson V10 and Tineco PURE ONE S12 Pro EX are also very powerful but also were hard to judge because the Tineco come with two detachable batteries while the Dyson has one built-in. The Dyson V11 though has the most efficient battery due to its high power-to-battery life numbers.

The Dyson V11 also is the winner in the deep cleaning test. Keep in mind, the V10 and Tineco were very close to it too.

The pickup test is a bit confusing to account for because the Dyson V10 and Tineco both have a soft-roller head that is designed for hard floors. The Dyson V11 Absolute with the roller head is not available to buy in the US for now. The regular head has some issues with picking up large debris on hard floor and is only able to do so if the adjustment gates are open.

The Tineco PURE ONE S12 did a bit better at handling pet hair. Also, the filtration system of the three of them is almost perfect because they all have sealed systems with HEPA filters.

After the recent price drop, the Dyson V10 became more attractive to buy, and got some extra points because of that. The Tineco has a few extra scores for its attachment kit. Both the S12 and Dyson V11 have auto adjust of airpower, the Dyson boosts suction on carpet and the Tineco - when recognizes dust. This feature helps to optimize battery life.
