Shark's new Vertex Duoclean upright vacuum has got new PowerFins technology that is not only good at picking up even the smallest things but also does the best at resisting hair tangles. Let's see how good is the Shark AZ2002 Vertex DuoClean.

Cleaning tests

Test results Cereal Kitty litter Rice Sugar Total
Hardwood 100% 100% 100% 100% 100%
Low carpet 100% 99% 100% 96% 98.8%
High carpet 100% 100% 100% 98% 99.5%
Overall - - - - 99.4%

Overall, the Vertex removed 99.4% debris across all floor types which is an incredible score. Mostly due to the DouClean brushroll that is ideal for both surfaces, carpet, and hard floor.

The vacuum struggled a bit with sugar on low and medium-pile carpets. When testing it with the hair, the Vertex showed great results with hair being tangled around the main rubber brush only. By far, this is one of the best cleaners that resists hair tangling.

The Design

Comparing the Vertex with Rotator and Navigator, the build quality is a noticeable step up. The quality is similar to the Shark Apex with several improvements.

The PowerFins brushroll refers to two cleaning rolls. One is a soft roller that does the best on hard floors and the other is a spiral rubberized roller with added power fins that agitates carpets better.

The Lift-away design allows users to remove the middle section from the base to carry it as a canister vacuum providing for more versability.

The accessories included with the Shark Vertex are:

  • dusting brush which is useful for cleaning dust or debris from hard surfaces;
  • crevice tool is great for corners and for furniture;
  • pet power brush is a mini motorized tool designed to clean pet hair.

Usability

The vacuum has a HEPA filter and a pre-motor foam filter both of which can be washed and reused.

With the switch on the handle, you can change the cleaning mode. There are three of them.

The cleaning head has LED lights. It helps to see dust and dirt under poor light conditions.

The power cord is 30 feet long and the extension hose adds about 5 and a half feet of reach when it's used as a canister vacuum.

Maneuverability

nd more maneuverability the Shark Vertex is an all-around solid option. If you're looking for a full-sized corded upright. That really shines with cleaning performance.Maneuverability on the Vertex is quite good it has advanced swivel steering and a decent turning radius. It can recline and lay nearly flat against the floor which is helpful for cleaning under furniture. It is a 12-inch wide cleaning path which is fairly typical for upright vacuums.

Maintenance

The first is regularly emptying the dustbin. When it's full simply press the button to remove the bin then empty the debris into the trash can. The HEPA filter and foam pre-filter are both washable. They can be rinsed with water and left to air dry before they are reinstalled.

Check the brushrolls. Mostly they are claimed to be self-cleaning but have a look at the rollers anyways.

So should you buy the Shark Vertex DuoClean upright?

It has strong suction, large dust bin capacity, and helpful tools. Because of strong suction and advanced brushroll design, it shows great cleaning results on all floor types.

Another highlight is the two-in-one usability. The Vertex can be used as an upright or as a canister which gives it the power of the full size upright with the portability of a canister.

Downsides are the cord and weight but using it as a lift-away canister makes it less bulky.

The Shark Vertex is a great value for those who have to deal with all kinds of debris, lots of hair and overall looking for a great vacuum cleaner.
