Dyson V8 and V10 are safe for allergy sufferers

Each is equipped with a relatively big dustbin (530 ml). If you have pets, you are going to need to empty it after every cleaning cycle to get better suction as the full dustbin and clogged filter impact cleaning performance.

If you want to transform the cleaner into a handheld, you can do so with one simple action. The Dyson V8 and V10 have the same storing system which can hold up to three additional accessories and can be hanging on the wall.

In short: what is similar between the two

  • The same dimensions
  • Sealed filtration system
  • Dustbin size
  • Same docking system.

What makes the Dyson V10 Motorhead different from the Dyson V8 Absolute?

  • Battery life (depends on the tool attached)
Low power settings Medium power settings High power settings
Dyson V10 46-61 minutes 26-30 minutes 5-9 minutes
Dyson V8 33-42 minutes - 5-9 minutes
  • Accessories in the box: the V10 Motorhead only has basic accessories, while the V8 Absolute includes two main cleaning heads and extra cleaning tools.
  • The Dyson V10 is more powerful (185 W vs. 150 W).
  • Battery Type: Nickel Cobalt vs. Lithium-Ion.
  • The Dyson V10 is less noisy.
  • The newer model has three cleaning modes when the V8 has two.

They both have the same Direct Drive Head, the same dirt bin size and both have HEPA filtration.

The way the main machine built is different and because of that, the V10 can generate more power. The dirt release is easier too. You don't have to grab it with your hands anymore if anything stuck inside. Another improvement is the nickel-cobalt battery which provides up to 60 minutes of runtime compared to 40 minutes the V8 does. The V10 is also less heavy and noisy.

The Dyson V8 has two cleaning modes while the V10 has three and even on med power settings, it is capable of deep carpet cleaning.

Speaking of power, the Dyson V10 generates 150 W on max power settings when the V8 delivers 115 W. This means, the V8 is capable of deep medium-pile carpet cleaning on high settings. The Dyson V10 can do deep cleaning even on medium settings.

When speaking of the Dyson V8 Absolute and Dyson V10 Motorhead in particular, there are a few things you should know about before deciding which one to get. Because of the same price range, it might be challenging to pick one.

Dyson cleaning heads

As we know, the Absolute version always has two cleaning heads: carpet head and soft roller for hard flooring. The Motorhead has only basic accessories in the box including only one cleaning head - direct drive.

The direct drive head performs flawlessly on carpets and even able to pick up debris on hard floor but when it comes to bigger debris, it struggles a bit. Also, it is noisier on hard floors than the roller brush.

The soft roller is ideal on hard floors and does not have bristles to agitate dirt on carpet. When cleaning a mixed surface you most likely will not switch between the heads and be using the direct drive but for hard floors mostly, you would love to get the soft roller. And that is the main difference between the two.

Because of the second soft roller, the Dyson V8 is more attractive for hard floors and homes with medium-pile carpets. The V10 Motorhead is better for carpets mostly.

Cleaning performance

The Dyson V10 Motorhead is very powerful on carpets, even on high-pile ones. Pick up ability is the same for both of them too. Deep cleaning makes a difference. The V10 is significantly better especially due to the fact it can clean high-pile carpets.

Dyson V8 Absolute quick look

The Dyson V8 Absolute comes equipped with a bunch of accessories in the box which makes the vacuum versatile and suitable for different cleaning needs. It is lightweight, has HEPA filtration, its dustbin is easy to empty, and every part of the main body is washable.

It is ideal for both: hardfloor and carpet. The V8 has strong suction, but it is not enough to provide deep cleaning on high-pile carpets especially if you have pets though it is ideal for quick cleanups and performs great on thin and medium-pile carpets.

The Dyson V8 Absolute includes a soft-roller that removes fine dust and large debris from hard floors.

The Dyson V8 Absolute is suitable for hard floors and low-to-medium-pile carpets

Since it has a battery that lasts up to 40 minutes, the V8 Absolute is suitable for small and average-sized homes.

If your home is about a mixed surface, you have pets and don't need extra power - go with the Dyson V8 Absolute.

Dyson V10 Motorhead

The Dyson V10 Motorhead has a few accessories in the package since it is the most basic of the V10 series.

The Dyson V10 Motorhead is a champ on carpets

It has HEPA so the vacuum is safe for allergy and asthma sufferers. Before Dyson launched its newest model Dyson V11, the V10 had been the most powerful of all cordless cleaners.

With three power settings, you can adjust suction power depending on your cleaning needs. 60 minutes of cleaning time gives the Dyson V10 opportunities to work in big houses. It is enough to cover a significant area.

Yes, it lacks the soft-roller tough the motorhead brush works great on carpet and bare floor. It only struggles with big debris like cereals on hardfloor. On carpet, the Dyson V10 Motorhead performs flawlessly.

With the extra power, you get deeper cleaning on thin and thick carpets which is great especially if you have high-pile carpets and pets.

Verdict

Since both models cost about the same, it is not as easy to choose the best. The V8 Absolute is more suitable for bare floors because of the roller head when the V10 Motorhead does its best on carpet.

If you don't have thick carpets or want to use the vacuum as a helper to your traditional one - get the Dyson V8 Absolute. It is powerful, lightweight and ideal for homes with a mixed surface.

If you live in a big home that is covered with carpets mostly - have a look at the V10 Motorhead. It does a superb job on carpets, it also works great on bare floor, it is able to get rid of pet hair even on high-pile carpets. With longer battery life and extra power, the Dyson V10 Motorhead is a cordless vacuum cleaner that can replace your traditional vacuum.
