Cleaning mechanics

All Dyson cordless vacuums have the same cleaning design, similar cleaning heads, and a sealed filtration system.

The Dyson cordless vacuums are safe for everyone who is sensitive to dust and alerrgies

The cleaning head has a similar design but is different for some models. The Dyson V11 Outsize's head is 20% wider and bigger compared to the other heads. The head has gates that when open allow bigger particles to let in instead of scattering them around. A standard cleaning head has a brushroll with stiff bristles to agitate carpets. Also suitable for hard floors but might be too loud and scatter big particles if there are too many.

A soft roller is specially designed for hard floors, it works quieter and is ideal for picking up any size of debris. It is on sale optionally for those models that do not include one in the box.

The Dyson V15 soft roller also has LED lights to track dust

battery (solid and swappable)

Most Dyson cleaners batteries are not clickable but the latest models have a different design that allows swapping batteries. The extra batteries are on sale optionally if needed. Only the Dyson V10 (all modifications) does not have a clickable battery.

Display

Starting with the Dyson V11, all following models are equipped with a display that shows additional information. The Dyson V15 even has cleaning stats that show how many particles were sucked up including its size. The same goes for carpet identification. Only the Dyson V10 does not automatically increase suction on carpet for the most efficient battery use.

We can say the Dyson V15 is the smartest vacuum cleaner in the lineup with the Dyson V10 being the most basic of all.

Dyson V10 model line includes:

Dyson V10 Motorhead, Animal, Absolute, and Allergy.

The difference between the three is in an accessory kit that comes with each model with the Motorhead having the least accessories and the Absolute - the biggest kit. The Dyson V10 Allergy has a different style of a cleaning head which is smaller in width so it takes longer to clean the same area compared to the other modifications.

Only the Dyson V10 Absolute includes a soft roller head designed to clean hard floors

The Dyson V10 does not have smart features the way the younger models do but still is a powerful machine capable of cleaning hard floors and all types of carpets. This is the last model in the lineup with a non-detachable battery.

The Dyson V10 is a valuable vacuum cleaner but with no extra features

Dyson V11 lineup includes:

Dyson V11 Animal, Torque Drive, Pro

The difference between the three is an accessory kit. The V11 Pro is the model from Dyson Commercial product line. It has 3 fewer tools than the V11 Torque Drive, i.e. mini motorized tool, combination tool, and mini soft dusting brush, but added 1 extra battery pack, 1 extra charger, and 1 extra reusable HEPA filter. The Animal has the smallest pack included. The Animal version also has a different display that does not show a countdown timer.

None of these come with a soft roller head for hard floors

The Dyson V11 has more power, automatically increases suction on carpets, and has an LED display that informs about the cleaning status. All of them have a clickable battery which allows for prolonging cleaning time by buying a second battery.

Dyson V11 Pro

The Dyson V11 Pro lacks some of the extra accessories but includes a second battery, charger, and HEPA filter. Cleaning performance is the same as the other standard V11 modifications.

Dyson V11 Outsize

The Dyson V11 Outsize is a completely different model but was designed on the standard V11 cleaning mechanics. It includes two modifications: the Dyson Outsize and Outsize Origin.

The Dyson V11 Outsize was designed for large homes. It has a wider cleaning head compared to the standard V11, a larger dustbin, and bigger size overall. It is one of the most powerful cordless vacuums on the market so far.

The Dyson V11 Outsize as well as the Origin do not include a soft roller in the box

Dyson V11 Outsize vs. Outsize Origin

The only difference between the two is the battery that comes in the box, the Outsize includes two which makes it suitable for large homes, while the Origin only has one.

The Dyson V12 Detect is almost impossible to find. It is very similar to the Dyson V15, only more lightweight, has a smaller dustbin, and as a result is not as powerful.

Dyson V15 Detect

The Dyson V15 has more power compared to the Dyson Outsize but is smaller. A smaller dustbin, as well as a standard cleaning head, makes it different from the Outsize. The weight and size of the vacuum are also smaller. Additionally, the cleaner includes a soft roller that has lights so you can see the dust on hard floors as you vacuum. The V15 counts and measures the size of dust particles and shows cleaning stats on the display.

The Dyson V15 Detect includes a soft roller with LED lights for the most efficient hard floor clean

There are two models designed for hard floors which means they don't have a standard cleaning head with stiff bristles, and only include a soft roller. The two are not available in the US and are hard to find in other countries.

Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Omni Glide

Unlike the other newer models that are massive and heavy, the Micro and Omni-Glide are small but with the smaller size, you get a smaller dustbin and motor which makes the cleaner suitable for hard floors only.

The Omni-Glide has a twin roller system that makes it possible to vacuum with 360-degree steering in both directions. Because of being smaller, it does not tire your arm as you vacuum.

The Dyson Micro has LED lights and a traditional soft roller but other than that is very similar to the Omni.

Dyson introduced a push button switch so you don't have to squeeze the power button as your vacuum.

There is not much difference in airflow between the two either at the extension tube or nozzle on both, low and max power, both give about the same numbers.

Since both do not include a standard cleaning head, they are not useful on carpets but do a good job on hard floors showing similar performance. However, the Micro can be used to vacuum some area rugs, while the Omni's rollers stop immediately once touch a carpet.

Summary

The Dyson Omni Glide is better suited for people who prioritize hard floor cleaning over anything else. Its 360-degree steering is a game-changing feature for lightweight vacuums and makes this the best at cleaning tight spaces. Plus, this feature translates well underneath furniture, which is a huge priority if you have low clearance furniture.

The Dyson Micro is an ideal option for folks looking for a versatile and lightweight stick vacuum who'll utilize it as a handheld as much as a floor cleaner. Its lightweight and compact body make it ideal for both configurations, and it comes with the prerequisite tools for the task.

As to cordless vacuums, having a look at the Dyson V10 Absolute which includes a soft roller makes the vacuum a great value for homes with a mixed surface.

The Dyson V11 Torque Drive is a great choice for mostly carpeted surface and those who are looking for a smarter option.

Big homes need a long cleaning session so the Dyson V11 Outsize is what you need.

Another option for a big home with a hard floor area is the Dyson V11 Pro which includes an extra battery and a soft roller.

The Dyson V15 is the best overall option with the most powerful motor and being able to clean hard floors as well as carpets. If you don't mind spending a little extra, consider getting the Dyson V15 Detect.
