Cleaning Performance
Airflow both at the head and at the base as well as their sealed and unsealed suction are significant. So there are scores for each metric with a good amount of weight to each since power metrics are important for cordless vacuums. Also crevice pickup test and deep clean scores are important too so extra points for the results are heading to that test.
One of the areas where cordless vacuums tend to vary a lot is with their ability to pick up different types and sizes of debris form hard floors and carpet
1 point for each large type of debris a cordless vacuum could pick up, one score for hard floors, and one for carpets. The scores were added together and multiplied by two for a pickup score. Also if the cleaner was able to pick everything up but got clogged in the intake, the scores were knocked off.
Battery life
Battery life is one of the most important when it comes to a cordless vacuum
High marks were given to each cleaner that has a good run time. The extra points were given for a removable battery or an extra one in the box. Additionally, a digital display that shows how long the cleaner is going to work before it runs out. Also, they had a boost in points for premium features like built-in sensors that react to dirt or automatically adjust suction on big messes.
The suction power is based on how dirty the floor is which really does seem to optimize both battery life and performance
Handle weight
Most cordless cleaners have the most weight located on the main body which tires an arm if the cleaner is being used for a long period of time. The lighter is better and every ounce makes a difference, the Shark Vertex Pro is one of the best since its weight is located on the bottom.
A sealed filtration system is the gold standard so there is a big gap between the more expensive and cheap cleaners
More points
Those that are quieter had extra points. And those that have a brush roller designed for actively removing hair tangles scored higher too. Such as the premium Sharks and Dysons.
Some features that are useful like LED lights or dustbin capacity give cleaner extra points too. A soft roller is a boost in points too since it's good for hard floor pickup, no matter larger debris or hair. Some vacuums like a Shark that has a soft roller combined with a standard one in the same head got even more points.
A double roller head means that you can get all the benefits of a soft roller on hard floors without having to physically change the head when you come to carpets
If they came with extra or interesting attachments other than the standard crevice tool and dusting brush like if they had a motorized turbo brush or something those got a few extra points as well.
Dyson V11 Outsize
Full-size bin. Full-size cleaner head. Twice the suction of any other cordless vacuum.
$545.0 on AmazonFor those who like the maneuverability of a stick vacuum but want a longer runtime adjustment capacity the Dyson V11 Outsize has you covered it comes with a massive 1.89-liter dustbin and a 1 hour and 17 minutes run time on a single battery and 220 air watts of suction.
Negative points
The higher price tag was the reason for being negatively scored as also those that have really bad online reviews.
What is the best budget pick for 2023?
The Tineco A10 comes in a lot of different packages. But the Essentials version is the cheapest which is about the same but only lacks a mini power brush in the box.
The Tineco A10 was the highest-ranking cordless vacuum in its price range this year
And it punches way above its weight with its specs and features. It's very lightweight and easy to use. Its main downside is a 25-minute battery life on low power and it's not great with larger debris on hard floors.
Overall pick
The top three overall are the Shark Stratos, the Dyson V15 Detect, and the Shark Vertex Pro.
Shark Stratos
Shark Stratos IZ862H with Clean Sense IQ
The best cordless vacuum in terms of a price and features
$330.0 on AmazonThe new Shark Stratos was very impressive in the tests, especially with its pickup on hard floors and carpet.
It's also the first Shark to have a dirt sensor and an auto suction adjustment feature for battery efficiency
But it really picks up a lot of points because of its value as it has a pretty significant price-to-performance ratio.
Dyson V15 Detect
The Dyson V15 Detect has extremely good power and performance scores it has probably the most features of any cordless vacuum on this list. But its significantly higher price did cause it to lose the top spot.
Shark Vertex Pro
Shark ICZ362H Vertex Pro Powered Lift-Away
Very convenient to use, has great pickup ability, and a lot of power
$599.0 on AmazonThe Shark Vertex Pro is the most powerful Shark cordless. It has a much better system for above-floor cleaning and its weight distribution is really good.
Honorable mentions to the fourth and fifth-place overall picks which were also Sharks and Dysons namely the Dyson V12 and the Shark Vertex.
The Dyson V12 has a smaller dustbin of 0.38 liters but it makes up for those shortcomings with a leaner lighter-weight design and fantastic usability. Dyson removed their normal trigger control which you had to hold down for a button that you can press once to turn on the vacuum.
The Dyson V12 is preferable over the V15 even though it's not as powerful yet lighter. Though it's also really expensive. The Shark Vertex is very similar to the Stratos as far as performance and looks like it does have a few fewer features and frills. But it's also less expensive so it's a decent trade-off.
