HydroVac Cordless Pro XL Vacuum The First Shark's Washer And It's Great

Updated: Nov 20, 2024

The Shark HydroVac Cordless Pro XL is Shark's first entry into the hard floor cleaner market. Those are relatively new cleaners that sell well and become popular since they are handy for homes with mostly hard floors. The Shark HydroVac Cordless Pro XL should not be confused with the Shark HydroVac XL which is the corded version that was released at the same time.

As you can see the two have the same specs, the cordless version is the most lightweight machine on the market.

The cordless modification works great for when it's not a large area to clean, it's easier to use since there is no need to deal with cords, just grab the washer and go. The corded version is heavier but has no limits on cleaning time which makes it perfect for big cleaning areas.

The cordless cleaner overview

Turning on the cleaner is the same as others. You have to fill the clean water tank with water and the included solution and turn it on with the button on the handle.

One thing to notice, unlike some competitors, the Shark dispenses water and solution automatically so you don't have to press the button for this.

The two water tanks system separates debris and wasted water into different containers for easier emptying. Like other models, the Shark has a self-cleaning mode. After cleaning, place the cleaner on the dock and activate the self-cleaning mode which flashes water into the cleaning brush making it clean and ready to be used again.

The Shark cleans wet or dry stains, debris and even large wet spills

Let's talk about ease of use.

Starting off with the pros

Easy of use

It's the lightest modern floor washer

Everything about it was really easy to use. Its swivel is smooth and responsive so you can get to most places without much effort.

Auto water dispensing

The HydroVac dispensed the water automatically instead of using a trigger like some of its competitors do

Its water flow is well regulated, it doesn't get the floors too wet or dry, and doesn't use a lot of water, the feature Shark advertises.

Shark claims the cleaner is capable of hard floors and some area rugs cleaning which means it has suction power even tho it doesn't provide the metrics.

It has some useful information on its LED display such as a battery life indicator and some alerts like empty and full tank

The Shark shines with its main job. The mopping ability on dried-on stains and wet spills is amazingly good since it has a clean pickup with only one back-and-forth pass.

Some other washers leave residue after washing wet messes, the Shak is better when dealing with all kinds of jobs leaving the floors shiny and clean in the least amount of time compared to its competitors.

It has a large opening on the front that sucks up large debris which makes the cleaner very convenient to use on all kinds of spills.

Shark has upgraded the cleaning roller to an anti-microbial soft brush that helps to prevent odor and bacterial growth.

Self Cleaning mode

After finishing the job, the self-cleaning mode suplies water to the roller leaving it clean and ready for the next cleaning

And it works really well. Keep in mind, when using the Shark on wet nasty spills, there is a lot of work on cleaning the roller and the whole behind-the-roller space so the self-cleaning mode is helpful when dealing with light mopping jobs and dry stains.

The final pro is that it's cordless and you don't have to deal with cords

Move on to the cons

Battery life

Shark hasn't published its runtime number but most of the washers cover big areas of hard floors so the only reason why it can be an issue is a very large area to clean.

Noise level & water tank size

The machine is louder than average. Another thing worth mentioning is the water tank size which seems to be smaller than average.

If you want to use these for big spills or fry debris then the cleaning process is much more involved

If you use it for light jobs like normal vacuuming and mopping of your house then the cleaning cycle might be all you need to keep it clean.

Summary

In conclusion, the Shark HydroVac Cordless Pro XL is one of the lightest and easiest-to-use cordless floor washers being reviewed. And though its raw power was just about average its cleaning ability with dried-on stains and wet messes is well above average maybe the best yet.
