Compare HP 14 Chromebook vs. Lenovo Chromebook S330
HP Chromebook 14
The HP Chromebook 14 powered by AMD processors is pretty well built especially for that price. The body is made of plastic, no aluminum, nor real metal. In general, it looks great on the table. The build quality is pretty decent here and that continues on with the keyboard and trackpad.
There are a USB type-a on both sides and a USB type-c on both sides as well. The seaport can be used for charging. Also, there are micro SD card slot, Kensington lock, and headphone/microphone slot. These speakers are surprisingly loud, they`re a little bit too heavy in the mid-range. If you`re listening to stuff like spoken audio or podcast or something like that they`re gonna be really good. Good for listening to music but not the best.
It has 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. The performance of the AMD a4 we`re getting about 13,000 on octane. The screen resolution is 1366 x 766 px. If you open 15 tabs the laptop would be a bit slowdown but we are talking about a $200+ device here so keep a few tabs open. Overall, Chromebooks are for basic web browsing stuff.
In general every Chromebook we review of late seems to get that kind of 8 to 10 hours battery life and this is no exception. The screen tho is not something you would like if you already have a flagship laptop. Viewing angles and the colors and the brightness give that not the best impression of the display.
Everything else about this device is decently good for the price except for the screen. But for the price, it is still a usable Chromebook for those who do not expect anything from it other than providing web browsing experience.
It is something you don't need to invest much at, it will not be a big deal if your kids beat it up, etc. Because of the screen, it is a bit difficult to recommend it for work, but if it's going to be as a second device to use or something you are going yo buy for kids, it might be worth it.
Lenovo Chromebook s330
The 1366 x 768 TN display means it does not have the best viewing angles and you`ll lose some color definition when you go off-center.
There is also a 1080 display that costs about $100 more. If screen quality matters to you, go with that version. The MediaTek MT8173C processor inside is fairly low-power consuming compared to the devices running with Intel chips. Also, it gives you more battery life.
If you getting a Chromebook for some light stuff like browsing, it will be a good budget choice. You can install Android apps and some Linux apps as well.
The trackpad is nice for a $200 Chromebook. The device is all plastic but has a rubberized coat on top of the keyboard deck that gives a bit of s premium feel. It does not fold all way around but the display goes flat if needed.
The USB type-c port is for charging but also can be used as a full-service USB C port. There is also an HDMI port and a USB 3 port. The laptop is fanless. The speakers are not the best but allow watching Youtube, etc. You can use Bluetooth headphones because the S330 has Bluetooth onboard.
The laptop scores 45.2 and it is the same as other Chromebooks tunning with the same processor. You get about 10 hours of battery life by doing some basic stuff like web browsing.
Many Android apps that work quite well on the Chrome OS platform and this is a great thing about Chromebooks. It also supports Linux. Linux is slightly buggy here tho but not really that bad, hopefully, will be fixed in the future.
The Lenovo S330 is a nice little Chromebook for the money and those who plan on doing some web browsing everyday work.
To conclude
The Lenovo has a touchscreen, which is helpful in many ways, the display has better resolution, which is also a big pro. Considering that all, we would recommend going with the Lenovo S330 unless you are low on budget. In this case, you can go with the HP Chromebook 14 if you don't mind the display.
